Beringharjo Market


Beringharjo Market is the oldest market in Jogja which opened simultaneously with the construction of Sultanate Palace, the royal center of the embryo of Yogyakarta, in the years around 1756. It is located on Malioboro street. Beringharjo Market used to immortalize the name or remember the name of the forests where the center of the kingdom was founded, namely Beringan forest. This market today is still the largest market in Yogyakarta, so it is often also called Gede Market (bazaar). Thousands of types of goods held in Beringharjo. Ranging from batik cloth hundreds of thousands of rupiah to the alias klithikan goods used goods at the price hundreds of dollars. Vegetables, fruit, foodstuff, garments, electronic products, herbal medicine, home appliances, to souvenirs. Behind the village there Ketandan market, the central buying and selling gold and jewels in Jogja. In 1991, renovated and expanded Beringharjo. Some made-storey building with market stalls (stalls without bulkhead) typical traditional market and some are made into the stalls of modern market-style store. The front of the market building is maintained in the original form as when it was last renovated in early 1900.
